The lost cod episode

Click here to view the videoOur household effects recently arrived from Canada and in one of the boxes was a DVD containing raw footage of a previously unseen CTK instalment, filmed back in Edmonton earlier this year.

I had gone shopping on my way home from work and grabbed a few random things in the supermarket, hoping that Lenny would be able to make sense of it all, culinary whiz that she is. But I’d forgotten she was off playing volleyball and I was to be left to my own devices in the kitchen.

Just what I was aiming for, I’m not sure, but it all ended pretty miserably, especially for the two pieces of cod that had the misfortune to be plucked from the supermarket chiller cabinet by my maladroit hands that evening.

I had recently discovered leeks and started using them in a few recipes, and I’d somehow convinced myself that whatever I cooked, as long as leeks were included it would be fine and praiseworthy. Then I spotted the radishes, and something called a radicchio that must surely be compatible. Clever me, I’d be just like those professional chefs, tossing together the most unlikely combinations of ingredients to produce something previously unheard of yet insanely delicious.

In the end, the food turned out miserably, whatever face-saving mumblings I come up with in the video. If you have trouble spotting the precise moment I lose control of the situation, I would suggest it’s around the time Bacardi rum somehow finds its way into the mix.

Maybe if I’d known what the hell a radicchio was, I would have done things differently.

Overall, the fish turned out tough, the flavour was a complete shemozzle and the salad a very sad and shameful mess with nothing to recommend it.

I bet the poor cod never thought he’d end up like that.

Great video! Really fun to watch. I admire your creative spirit, even though your results may not have been quite what you had expected.

How did you get the clickable link in your video? That was a neat trick! (I am a Mac and Quicktime user also).

I will enjoy looking at more of your blog. I discovered it through a link on Simply Recipes.

WOW, I don’t usually comment on this stuff, I found your recipe through the itunes podcasting… and man… it looks sooooo good :P I rarely watch cooking programmes…

I like how creative even at home you can be, and I hate the cooking programs on TV we have here in the UK,… I really like your homemade video so kudos to you - it really shows how anyone can do this with ordinary kit….

Nice work, keep up the good homemade style cooking videos! I love it!! 10/10

    Lenny,

See what happens when you let him cook by himself? I suggest ordering take out on volleyball nights. ;)

Saw your video through my Mac’s podcast… the lost cod episode? Interesting codcast! When I saw you grab a hold of that radicchio, I thought, that’s gonna taste like crap. Glad it wasn’t I eating it.

I’m somewhat of a culinary pioneer too, every now and then haphazardly trying some kind of taste that I might dream up. Once in a while it actually works! But, cooking’s like science. You mix alot of things together, and every once in a while, you too can yell, “Eureka!”

Radicchio is a salad around here. It’s good with oil and vinegar. With a lil bit of salt. Try it out!
